Boys Volleyball Earn Another CIF Championship

IMG_1233The LCC Boys Volleyball team won the Division I CIF Championships defeating rival Carlsbad in a tight 5 set victory. It took 5 tough sets and was also the 5th time the Mavs have played the Lancers. The No. 3-seeded Mavericks upset No. 1 Carlsbad 25-23, 22-25, 25-22, 15-25, 16-14 to win the San Diego Section Division I boys volleyball championship. Check out the KUSI report here -> Video


Newest CIF Champs – Gymnastics

cif-gymnastics2015The Lady Mavs finished another perfect season with a win at the CIF Finals meet Friday night, clenching the 3rd team title in the last four years. Seniors Michaela McNaught-Davis Hess and Sydney Wennerstrom led the way for the Mavericks to edge out West Hills by almost four points.

Hess took 2nd on the Compulsory Floor exercise and 3rd in the All Around, while Wennerstrom won the Compulsory Beam title and set a new school record on the Compulsory Uneven Bars, scoring 9.8s on both events. First year freshman, Kiara Wagner, also tied a school record on the Optional Beam event, winning with a 9.65. The Maverick gymnasts are undefeated in the 2015 season and are the Palomar League and CIF Champions.

CIF Runners Up

field-hockey-cif-finalsThe Girls Field Hockey Team finished as CIF Runners Up losing a tough game to Serra High School. The Boys Water Polo team made the CIF Finals for the first time and ended up as CIF Runners Up. The Girls Volleyball team also finished as CIF Runners Up. Great season by all of our fall teams!

boys-cc-cifgirls-cc-cifThe Boys and Girls Cross Country teams traveled to Fresno on Friday after Thanksgiving to compete in the CIF State Cross Country meet at Woodward Park. Both teams raced well and finished in 8th place. A great end to a great season!

Baseball earns a Trip to Open CIF Finals

The LCC Baseball team earned a trip to the CIF Finals on Saturday at USD at 7:00 p.m. They had a very tough game against the #1 seed, Rancho Bernardo and prevailed 3-2. You can read about the exciting game in the Union Tribune article here -> UT ARTICLE.

Girls Lacrosse WINS Open CIF Championships

Boys Volleyball WINS Open CIF Championships

vball-champsThe LCC Boys Volleyball team won the CIF Open Championships on Saturday defeating Carlsbad in 3 tight sets. The game was played at Cathedral Catholic HS. Check out details about the match in the Union Tribune article HERE

Next up the Mavericks won their SoCal Regional QuarterFinal Game on Tuesday at LCC against LA Cathedral. Next up is a SoCal Regional SemiFinal Games vs. Esperanza HS in Anaheim on Thursday. Go MAVS!

Swimmers Success at CIF Finals

IMG_4129Granite Hills High School,Saturday May 24 9 a.m.under cloudy skies, the first race of the Div 1 CIF swim competition began. Our Maverick swimmers were shaved, tapered and ready to race. They wore their “fast suits” and had their race faces on.

The first victory of the meet for the Mavs was in the boys 200 medley relay. The Mavs led off with backstroker Mitch Scarski Jr., then breaststroker Ryan Clancy Jr., flyer Liam McCloskey Jr., final leg was freestyler Quinn Riccitelli Sr. The boys won by half a pool length!! Way to go Mavs!

On the podium at the meet for girls were: Savannah DuPuis, 3rd 200 & 2nd 500 Free, Rachel Kulik, 4th 50 free, 4th 100 fly. Also scoring for the Mavs were; Riley McDonald 7th Michelle Jacob 8th both in 200 IM and Ana Diaz 11th in the 200 Free. Jacob, McDonald, Kulik & Dupuis were 3rd for Mavs 200 medley relay.

On the podium for boys were: Liam McCloskey 1st in both the 200 free and the 100 fly, Ryan Clancy 5th 50 free & 3rd 100 breast, Mitch Scarski 3rd 100 back and 7th 100 fly.
Senior Nathan Park was 10th in 100 fly and senior Kevin Jung took 8th in 500 and 10th 200 free. Jack McCloskey 7th 100 back. 7th Place in 200 Free Relay Ricitellii, Reider, O”Malley, Clancy and 7th in the 400 Free Relay Jung, Scarski, O”Malley, McCloskey.

The last event of the meet for the girls was a nail biter! The Lady Mavs 400 free relay team of Riley McDonald Fr, Rachel Kulik Jr., Michelle Jacob Jr.. and Savannah DuPuis Soph., made for a exciting race. Neck and neck with Torrey Pines during all legs of the race the anchor DuPuis out touched the Falcon swimmer for the victory!
Both the boys and girls teams finished 4th in the team competition.

Coach Bill Vice Named SoCal Girls Cross Country Coach of the Year

Congratulations to Coach Vice from La Costa Canyon High School. The California Coaches’ Association has selected him as the Southern California Coach of the Year in Girls’ Cross Country. Both the Northern and Southern California Coaches of the Year will be honored at the CCA Coach of the Year Banquet at the Double Tree by Hilton Hotel in Sacramento on June 14th. There, the state coach of the year will be announced in 18 different sports.

Freshman Taylor Edwards broke the Compulsory Vault Record with a 9.7 and took first in this event. McKenna O’Neil (10th) won the compulsory beam division with a 9.7 and took 3rd in the Compulsory All Around.

The undefeated Mavericks head to CIF Finals this Friday at West Hills High School for the championship.

LCC Girls Lacrosse Advances to CIF Championships

GirlsLacrosse The LCC Girls Lacrosse team defeated Torrey Pines on Saturday to advance to the CIF Open Championships vs. Canyon Crest at Del Norte High School on Tuesday. This is one of the many games that was affected by the wildfires across the county as it was supposed to be played at LCC last Wednesday. Check out the coverage in the article in Sunday’s UT HERE.

All Tournament Team: Kekoa Pukahi, Kendall Ratter and Luke Budwig

Adam Mester had a team high of 66 kills over the two day tourney and added 11 blocks and 28 digs. Kendall Ratter had 61 Kills, 5 Aces, 8 blocks and 39 digs. Brad Gretsch added 20 blocks and 36 kills. Kekoa Pukahi had 201 Assists, 10 blocks and 30 digs. Brandon Woodard contributed 30 kills, 7 Aces and 9 blocks. Kevin Hornbeak had 22 Kills, 12 blocks (6 solo) and 31 digs. Luke Budwig lead the team in digs with 52!

LCC Gymnastics Wins Tough Tri-Meet vs. Del Norte and Rancho Bernardo

2014LCC-Gymnastics-TeamThe Gymnastics Team won a Tri Meet versus Del Norte and Rancho Bernardo on Wednesday. They posted their top score of the year at 222.225. Highlights of the meet included Sydney Wennerstrom (Jr.), McKenna O’Neil (So.), and Michaela McNaught-Davis Hess (Jr.) taking 1st, 2nd and 3rd in the Compulsory All Around Division. Additionally, McKenna broke the Compulsory Vault record for LCC with a 9.65 (previously held by current Assistant Coach and former LCC Alumni, Terra Girvin). Sydney broke the LCC Compulsory Bars record with a 9.75. The team had their highest team score all season with a 222.225 and remains undefeated for 2014 thus far. The JV Mavericks are undefeated in 2014, as well.

LCC Wrestling’s All-Americans

Last week the wrestling team competed at Nationals in Virginia Beach, Virginia.
We have only had 3 guys in district history to place at this tournament ever, and now we can make that 5!

Track Competes at Arcadia Invitational

Emma-Steven-ArcadiaOver Spring Break some of LCC’s track and field athletes participated in one of the top HS Track Meets in the country, the Arcadia Invitational. Emma Abrahamson and Steven Fahy participated in the Invitiational 3200m Races and each set a new personal best and school record! Congrats to both Emma and Steven.

small-bball-lcc-tpOn Friday night, January 17th LCC was host to a SRO crowd here to watch the LCC – Torrey Pines basketball game. The game was close and the crowd was loud the entire night. LCC won on a last second score by Tommy McCarthy. You can read the Union Tribune’s write-up of the game at the UT Article.
